The county was named by Joshua D Brown. This Texas congressional representative died before Kerrville, the original county seat, was established. Still, it was his wish that the city and the county be recognized by the name Kerr County and Kerrville.
The county itself is very diverse. Culturally speaking, several different ethnicities are represented throughout the county. According to the latest census data, there are recognized populations who can claim either African American, Native American or Asian decent.
