The leading cultural attraction of Kerr County may very well be the Kerrville Folk Festival.  Held each year in Kerrville during the late spring, the festival is the brainchild of Rod Kennedy.  Today, it has been in existence for nearly 40 years and is one of the longest running festivals in the country – it lasts a full 18 days.  Singers, songwriters and other entertainment professionals have used the Kerrville Folk Festival to launch their careers.  It also attracts artists and other performers.  It is better than a state fair.
The festival itself is uses the Quiet Valley Ranch as its base.  Each year more than 30,000 people travel to Kerrville to participate in the festival.  Various music genres are represented at the Kerrville Folk Festival including acoustic rock, Americana, blues, country, jazz, bluegrass and traditional folk music.  Several of the biggest names in music can say they got their start here.  Mary Chapin Carpenter, Lucinda Williams and Robert Earl Keen are just a few examples.

The Kerrville Folk Festival has grown so well known that industry leaders often schedule several days there to check out up and coming talent.  It offers unknown acts the chance to display their talents to talent scouts they would usually not have access to.
It should come as no surprise that those who attend the festival know that the talent is top-notch.  Because so many of the artists are there looking for their big break, they all bring the big guns – often singers write their own music – making the music all unique and new.
Whether you are a festival junky or just planning a trip to Kerr County – do it during the amazing Kerrville Folk Festival.
